  1. General Information: –

THE KARNATAKAMEDICAL COLLEGE HOSPITAL, HUBLI(KIMS) Started ON 1ST January 1960.  Dr. (Smt) Kasbekar  was posted soon after as assistant Professor and In charge of the Department Of Obstetrics and Gynecology and there was only 12 beds and there was no Obstetric wing at that time.  In the month of Aug-1960 Dr. Rathanbai Moaray took over as Associate professor and head of department, the Obstetrics wing of the department was added in the month of May-1961.  On 29th June 1961 Dr. Jhirad took over as Professor and head of the department and at that time there were only 100 beds and there were two units. One was headed by Dr. Jhirad and second was headed by Dr. Lalitha Lingaiah. In 1964 the 3rd unit was added to the department when Dr. Jayalaxmi Iyer as Associate Professor and the beds also increased to 150.

Dr. Rajlaxmamma succeded to Dr. Jhirad in the early part of year 1967.  She continued in the position till 1969.  Then Dr. Lalitha Kumar took over as head of the department, she continued in the position  till December-1975.  Then Dr. R H Kulkarni took over  as head of the department till 30th  april 1976.  Subsequently Dr. S. N. Koulgud.  Took over as head of the department  till June 1984.  Then Dr. Savitri Chavan Took over as Professor and head of the Department till June 1996, further Dr. K.S Patil, and was head of the department till November-2005.  Then Dr. U S Hangaraga is the professor and head of the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, till 04 February 2011. Then Dr. M G Hiremath the professor and head of the department till 31 May 2015. At present Dr. Ramalingappa C Antaratani is the professor and head of the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and  DIRECTOR, KIMS Hubli.

The department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, KIMS (KMC) was the only recognized Lap. Sterilization training centre in the state by the Govt. of India, in the year 1982. (First in the State.) And Skill birth attendance, BEMOC. PPIUCD   and recently CAC training centre. Only centre in state for tubal re-canalization.

The First batch of MBBS Students appeared examination in the year 1961 December.  In the year 1965 the department was up-graded with assistants of Karnataka university Dharwad in their post graduates courses MS (OBG ) presently we have 16 MS in take  per year. Presently the department is teaching the under graduates and post graduate MS (OBG )  and given active help to the running of  school of nursing both general and as well as midwifery nursing.  Recently the college is added B Sc. Nursing. M.Sc. Nursing and Para Medical courses. Delivery for this year are more then 11,000, catering services to surrounding 8 Districts of North Karnataka.
