Pathology

Department of Pathology has established various diagnostic branches namely Histopathology, Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Cytology and Immunohistochemistry over a period of years along with nurturing to the undergraduate and postgraduate education. Postgraduate study specimens, constructed autopsy specimen assembly is always ready for PG examinations. The department has well-stocked museum arranged systematically with corresponding legends. Our department has procured equipment for diagnostic services like Histokinet (automatic), Binocular research microscopes, Trinocular microscopes with CCTV attachment, Haematology autoanalyzer etc., IHC (Immunohistochemistry) laboratory is set up and we are using 19+5 of antibodies on Histopathology section for diagnostic and research purpose.

 

We have following sections in Pathology as per MCI /RGUHS

(a) Histopathology Section: – Routine processing of tissues using histokinite and microtomes.
– Special stains like RT/GMS/PAS/etc are done,
– Frozen section services provided using Cryostat
– MLC and Adult & Perinatal clinical autopsies and reporting done.

(b) Cytology:- Fine needle aspiration cytology/USG and CT guided FNACs done and reported.
– Body fluids analysis
– PAP smear interpretation.

(c) Hematology:- All 5 hematology analysers are not working , not repaired, not in AMC or CMC since more than a year. Peripheral smears are done. Hb done manually.
– PT/APTT done manually as P.T machine is very old and not is functioning properly.
– Bone marrow aspiration/biopsy done.

(d) Museum: – Mounting and display of specimens.

(e) Blood Bank: – Whole blood, Component preparation done and issued,
Apharesis not put to use after getting licence.since 2013,

(f) Immunohistochemistry – Stopped since 21/2 yrs due to non supply of reagents. Letters being written to administrators repeatedly and brought to there notice.

(g)OPD & Central Pathology Lab : – Segregated from department of Pathology in Sept/2017 against M.C.I and RGUHS Rules by Director, KIMS,Hubli and an Associate Professor made to do administration.
